On Friday, September 12, WFTA hosted a few hundred residents, members, and community from multiple generations to our fall celebration. Big thank you to our incredible event planning committee — BJ Grattan, Gail Palmer, John Connolly, Diana Chaplin, and Ted Cavan — for bringing us all together tonight. Rees Tulloss, thank you for the cider press. All 100 lbs of apples were pressed into cider!
We added some special touches this year — kids’ activities, and reduced waste.
We celebrated what connects us as neighbors: Weston’s incredibly valuable network of forests and trails. So easy to take for granted!
So let us share a piece of our history and relationship to the town of Weston. Nearly 50 years ago, in 1977, Weston created its first Open Space Plan. Ten years later, 700 residents — 700! — attended a days-long “Planning Weston’s Future” conference. The keynote speaker’s message was simple but powerful: “Save what should be saved, build what should be built.” That community energy led to Weston Land Trust in 1991, which later merged with our organization in 2012. Thank you, Meg Kelly, for your leadership there.
Here we are again. It’s been 10 years since our last town-wide survey on open space and recreation, and just as those 700 residents shaped Weston’s future in 1987, you have that same opportunity right now.
The survey closes today — make sure your voice is heard. This is your chance to influence decisions about land use, acquisition, and management for the future.
We are asking for your help and your connections. Our goal is simple: broaden our community base. Think about the groups you’re part of — your neighbors, book club, faith community, professional network. Which of these communities would benefit from connecting with Weston’s natural spaces? Who would you like to go on a walk with or bring to one of our programs?
Here’s how you can engage right now:
Join our monthly guided walks — first Sunday of each month. On October 5th, we're exploring Wellington Farm.
Get your young ones into our Junior Ranger program.
Join adults and teens for Stewardship Saturdays — third Saturday monthly.
Invite senior friends to our COA Walks.
