Keynote Presentation & Discussion

Restoring Childhood: Why Playing Freely Outdoors Matters for All and How We Can Enable the Next Generation

Guest Speaker: Peter Gray, Ph.D. Professor of Psychology, Boston College and author of Free to Learn

Children and adults alike learn the most vital human skills — agency, courage, and resilience — through self-directed, unstructured play. Dr. Peter Gray will summarize research evidence showing how the lack of independent activity is a primary driver of psychological suffering in today's youth.

Following the talk, Dr. Gray will lead an interactive discussion:

“What can WFTA and the Weston community do to encourage and enable kids to really play in our beautiful natural settings?”

About the Speaker
