Star Gazing Event with Charles Whitney - October 2003

On Friday evening, October 24, the Weston Forest and Trail Association hosted a "Stargazing" event on the soccer field behind the Middle School. The sky was clear (finally), and Chuck Whitney, retired Professor of Astronomy at the Harvard Smithsonian Observatory, led more than 100 attendees to observe a variety of stars and constellations, using binoculars and telescopes up to 8".

In addition to the main focus on the stars, hot chocolate, coffee, marshmallow roasts and glow-necklaces for the kids made the cold evening very enjoyable. Lisa Larkin organized the event on behalf of the WF&TA, ably assisted by Barbara Zenker and other Trustees. Other events to create awareness and appreciation of the mission of the Weston Forest and Trail Association are planned by the Membership Committee led by Meg Steiner. See photos below.
